Our Story

We’re Gwen and James, the couple behind Bluebell Breaks.

This cottage is more than just a place to stay, it’s part of the land we know and love, and we’ve poured ourselves into making it a lovely retreat for guests and their dogs. Gwen grew up right here on the estate, learning to drive a battered old Land Rover across the fields with her dad long before she had a license.

The woods, the farmland and the riverbanks have always been part of her everyday life, and she now helps manage the working estate alongside running Bluebell Breaks.

James is the son of a local horse racing trainer and now helps out with the horse yard here on the estate. When he’s not on the farm, he’s working as a fireman, a job that keeps him busy but never far from the community. Together we look after the land and the cottages and the growing number of guests who now return to Bluebell Breaks year after year.

Our two dogs, Mr Stix and Cleo, go wherever we go. They’re part of the team and a big reason why we’ve made Bluebell Breaks so genuinely dog-friendly. We know what it’s like to try and find places where dogs are truly welcome rather than simply tolerated, and we wanted to create something better.

The cottage is a calm corner of the countryside, tucked beside the bluebell-filled woods Gwen walked through as a child. It’s where we come to pause, put the kettle on and breathe in the countryside air. And now, it’s a place we’re proud to share.

We hope you feel at home here, and that you and your dog enjoy the slower pace of life that Bluebell Breaks was made for.
